OUAT Marks 65th Foundation Day, Sets Focus on Technology-Led Farm Transformation
Bhubaneswar, Aug 24: The Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) marked its 65th Foundation Day in Bhubaneswar with a renewed focus on technology-driven agricultural transformation, climate-resilient farming and greater participation of youth in agriculture and allied sectors.
Addressing the foundation day programme at Krushi Shiksha Sadan, Deputy Chief Minister and OUAT Pro-Chancellor Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo said the state government was committed to helping farmers achieve their aspirations through targeted schemes.
He also assured farmers that adequate fertiliser stocks were available across Odisha and urged them not to worry about supplies.
Fisheries and Animal Resources Development and MSME Minister Gokulananda Mallik highlighted the important role of farmers in building a prosperous Odisha. He called for increased participation of young people in agriculture and allied sectors to boost farm incomes.
Agriculture Commissioner-cum-Secretary Sachin Ramchandra Jadhav stressed the need for scientific and climate-resilient farming practices. He urged OUAT to develop as a “living laboratory” for new-age agricultural technologies, including drones, robotics and sensors.
OUAT Vice-Chancellor Prof Pravat Kumar Roul highlighted the university’s contribution to agricultural education, research and extension over the past six decades. He said OUAT would continue working towards new milestones in agricultural innovation and farmer empowerment.
The celebrations also witnessed the release of 37 new publications and the launch of several digital initiatives. New facilities, including Vidyarthi Bhavan, Udhyamita Bhavan, Bhubaneswaree Girls’ Hostel and a Veterinary Complex, were inaugurated virtually.
As part of the programme, 33 women agri-entrepreneurs were felicitated and an agricultural fair was organised, showcasing farm produce from different districts of Odisha.
Outstanding students, faculty and staff were also honoured. Samikhya Pal and Prateek Rath of the College of Agriculture, Bhawanipatna, received the Best Female and Best Male Graduate awards, respectively.
Dr Sanjay Kumar Roul was named Best Teacher, Dr Debadatta Sethi Best Scientist, Dr Dabanagere Lenka Best Extension Scientist and Dr Kabita Sethi Best Woman Scientist. Dr Debra Meher was awarded Best Technical Staff, while Saroj Kumar Nayak received the Best Ministerial Staff award.
Institutional awards were presented to AICRP on Linseed for Best AICRP, KVK Mayurbhanj-II for Best KVK and AICRP on Cashew for Best Seed & QPM Production Unit.
