Odisha Lok Bhavan Becomes India’s First IGBC Platinum Green Campus

Bhubaneswar, Sep 2 : Odisha Lok Bhavan in Bhubaneswar has become the first Governor House in the country to receive the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) Platinum certification under its Green Campus Rating System, marking a major milestone in sustainable and environment-friendly infrastructure.

Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati received the certification from IGBC National Chairman C Sekhar Reddy at a function held at the New Abhishek Hall at Lok Bhavan on Tuesday.

The Odisha Lok Bhavan campus secured 88 out of 100 points, placing it in the highest category of the IGBC Green Campus Rating System.

According to a statement issued by the Governor’s House, Odisha Lok Bhavan is the first Lok Bhavan in India to be certified green and Platinum-rated. It is also the first campus to receive a Platinum rating under the revised and stringent IGBC Green Campus Version 1 rating system, which was launched in July 2024.

The certification recognises the campus’s focus on sustainable practices, energy efficiency and environmentally responsible infrastructure.

The Governor’s House also highlighted another significant green initiative, stating that Lok Bhavan is the first Lok Bhavan in the country to adopt an all-electric official carcade.

The Platinum certification reflects Odisha’s growing emphasis on sustainable development and the adoption of environmentally friendly practices in public infrastructure. The achievement also positions Lok Bhavan as an example of how government institutions can integrate green practices into their day-to-day functioning.

The recognition is expected to further strengthen Odisha’s efforts towards promoting energy-efficient, sustainable and climate-conscious infrastructure across the state.
