Odisha CM Announces Rs 1,000-Crore Package for Flood-Hit Farmers

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Friday announced a Rs 1,000-crore special assistance package for flood-affected farmers in six districts, while also disbursing more than Rs 833 crore to farmers and landless agricultural families under the fifth instalment of the CM-KISAN scheme.

At a state-level programme, Majhi transferred over Rs 833 crore through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) to 41.35 lakh small and marginal farmers and 13,949 landless agricultural families ahead of the rabi season.

The financial assistance under the CM-KISAN scheme is aimed at helping farmers meet essential agricultural expenses during the upcoming cultivation season. Beneficiaries can use the support to purchase key inputs such as seeds, fertilisers and pesticides.

The Chief Minister also announced the special assistance package for farmers affected by the recent floods in six districts. The package is intended to provide additional support to farmers who have suffered losses due to the flood situation and help them recover and resume agricultural activities.

The disbursement of the fifth instalment of CM-KISAN comes at a crucial time as farmers prepare for the rabi crop season. The government said the DBT mechanism would ensure that financial assistance reaches eligible beneficiaries directly and helps them meet their immediate cultivation requirements.

With the latest disbursement, the state government reiterated its focus on providing financial support to small and marginal farmers and landless agricultural families, particularly during periods of agricultural distress.

The Rs 1,000-crore special package is also expected to provide relief to flood-hit farming communities and support their recovery ahead of the next agricultural cycle.
