India, Brazil Sign MoU to Deepen Cooperation in Telecom and ICT
Pune: India and Brazil have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation in telecommunications and Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the sidelines of the BRICS ICT Track Meeting in Pune.
The MoU was signed by Union Minister for Communications Jyotiraditya M. Scindia and Brazil’s Minister of Communications Frederico de Siqueira Filho.
The agreement provides a comprehensive framework for cooperation in digital innovation, telecommunications, digital infrastructure and emerging technologies. It also aims to facilitate the exchange of information, experiences and best practices between the two countries.
Speaking on the occasion, Scindia said the MoU would further deepen India-Brazil cooperation and create opportunities for collaboration in universal connectivity, cybersecurity, Digital Public Infrastructure, emerging technologies and capacity building.
Framework for Comprehensive ICT Cooperation
The cooperation framework covers a wide range of strategic areas, including telecommunications policies and regulations, Artificial Intelligence, 5G and 6G technologies, Open RAN, Internet of Things, Direct-to-Device connectivity, Low Earth Orbit satellites and Non-Terrestrial Networks.
The two countries will also explore cooperation in spectrum and satellite-orbit management, digital infrastructure, optical fibre and submarine cable networks.
Cybersecurity, universal and meaningful connectivity, digital inclusion and consumer protection are also among the key areas identified under the agreement. The MoU further provides scope for cooperation on private networks, digital transition and reducing the environmental impact of ICT infrastructure.
The agreement is based on the principles of equality, mutual benefit and mutual respect, with both countries seeking to identify mutually beneficial opportunities in the rapidly evolving digital technology sector.
The signing of the MoU marks another step in strengthening India-Brazil ties in telecommunications and ICTs. It is expected to support greater collaboration in emerging technologies, digital infrastructure, cybersecurity, connectivity, knowledge sharing and international cooperation.
