Ganjam Leads Odisha in Rooftop Solar Adoption with 16,418 Installations
Bhubaneswar, August 21: Ganjam has emerged as the leading district in Odisha in rooftop solar adoption, recording 16,418 installations, the highest in the State, according to the latest data. The achievement underlines the growing acceptance of solar energy among households and marks a significant step in Odisha’s transition towards clean and renewable energy.
Baleshwar ranks second in the State in rooftop solar installations, followed by Khordha and Cuttack. The strong performance of these districts reflects the expanding reach of rooftop solar across both urban and rural areas, with more households turning to renewable energy to meet a part of their electricity requirements.
Ganjam’s achievement assumes particular significance for Southern Odisha, as it is the leading district among the eight districts served by TP Southern Odisha Distribution Limited (TPSODL). The eight districts under TPSODL’s operational jurisdiction—Ganjam, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Malkangiri, Koraput and Boudh—have together recorded 25,277 rooftop solar installations.
The rapid adoption of rooftop solar has been driven largely by the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, which is encouraging households to adopt solar energy with government support. The scheme has created greater awareness about the benefits of rooftop solar while making clean energy more accessible to consumers.
TPSODL is complementing the government’s efforts through extensive consumer awareness campaigns, grassroots outreach and its Utility-Led Aggregation (ULA) Model, aimed at facilitating wider access to rooftop solar across its operational areas. The company is conducting door-to-door awareness drives, Gram Panchayat-level engagements, consumer outreach programmes and stakeholder interactions to encourage more households to adopt solar energy.
The growing number of solar installations across residential rooftops is gradually transforming the way households generate and consume electricity. Consumers are not only meeting a portion of their energy needs through solar power but are also becoming active participants in Odisha’s clean-energy transition.
Commenting on the achievement, TPSODL CEO Amit Kumar Garg said, “Ganjam emerging as the leading district in Odisha in rooftop solar adoption is a significant milestone in the State’s clean energy journey.”
He said the achievement reflected the growing confidence of consumers in solar energy and the collective efforts of the administration, local communities and other stakeholders. Garg added that TPSODL would continue its outreach initiatives to help more consumers understand and access the benefits of government-backed solar programmes.
With Ganjam leading the State and the eight TPSODL districts collectively crossing 25,000 rooftop solar installations, Southern Odisha is emerging as an important contributor to Odisha’s renewable energy ambitions. The growing adoption of rooftop solar is expected to further strengthen household participation in the State’s journey towards a cleaner and more sustainable energy future.
