Odisha Police have busted an organised inter-district gang allegedly involved in stealing transformer copper coils, aluminium and copper wires, tower cables, batteries and other electrical materials in Keonjhar district. Sixteen persons have been arrested in connection with the case, a police officer said on Thursday.
According to police, the gang was operating across several districts, including Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Jajpur, Angul, Dhenkanal and Cuttack. The stolen electrical materials were allegedly disposed of through different scrap dealers.
During the investigation, police found that the accused had allegedly carried out thefts at around 20 locations in Keonjhar district. Their primary targets included transformer copper coils, electrical wires, tower cables, tower batteries and other valuable electrical equipment.
Following the identification of the gang and its suspected members, police formed several teams and conducted raids at different locations to apprehend the accused.
The arrests are expected to help police uncover the wider network involved in the theft and disposal of electrical materials. Further investigation is underway to identify other persons involved in the racket and ascertain the total value of the stolen materials.
