The meeting of the GST Council, which was earlier scheduled to be held on September 12, has been postponed to October 7, officials said.
The rescheduling comes in view of the BRICS summit, which India is set to host in New Delhi on September 12 and 13.
The BRICS summit is expected to focus on several pressing global issues, including economic challenges arising from the ongoing West Asia crisis. The meeting will bring together leaders of the expanded BRICS grouping to deliberate on matters of international cooperation and global economic stability.
BRICS was originally formed by Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. The grouping expanded in 2024 with the inclusion of Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran and the United Arab Emirates. Indonesia became a member in 2025.
The GST Council meeting on October 7 is expected to take up various issues related to India's Goods and Services Tax framework and other matters concerning indirect taxation.
