Odisha’s opposition Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Thursday accused the BJP-led state government of failing to adequately address the situation in flood-hit Jajpur district and alleged discrimination in the distribution of relief materials among affected villagers.
The BJD alleged that several people affected by the floods were facing hardship and claimed that relief assistance was not reaching all affected families in a fair and timely manner.
The opposition party criticised the state government over its handling of the flood situation and demanded that relief and rehabilitation measures be intensified in the affected areas.
However, the ruling BJP rejected the allegations, asserting that the government was extending assistance to flood-affected people in accordance with the prescribed provisions of the relief code.
The BJP maintained that relief materials were being distributed as per established norms and denied the opposition’s charge of political or other discrimination in the relief process.
The allegations and counter-allegations come amid continuing concerns over the impact of flooding on people in parts of Jajpur district, with affected residents seeking timely relief and support from the administration.
The political exchange has put the government’s flood management and relief distribution measures under scrutiny as authorities continue their response to the situation.
