Neeraj Chopra to Kick Off Season at Doha Diamond League on May 16
India’s star javelin thrower and double Olympic medallist Neeraj Chopra is all set to begin his 2025 season at the prestigious Doha Diamond League, scheduled to take place on May 16 in the Qatari capital.

Chopra, who clinched gold at the Tokyo Olympics and followed it up with a silver at the 2024 Paris Olympics, confirmed his participation in the event on Tuesday. This will be his third consecutive appearance at the Doha leg of the Wanda Diamond League.

“I’m looking forward to starting my season in Doha once again. The crowd is always passionate, and competing in such an atmosphere gives me great energy,” Chopra said.

The 26-year-old had a memorable outing at the Qatar Sports Club last year, winning the event with a world-leading throw of 88.67 meters. With high expectations for the upcoming athletics season, Chopra is aiming to build strong momentum heading into the year’s major competitions.

He also expressed excitement about the continued support from Indian fans in Qatar, saying, “The Indian community in Doha always turns up in large numbers. Their support means a lot to me.”

The Doha Diamond League meet is expected to feature a strong international field, making it a crucial test for Chopra as he begins another year at the top level of global athletics.
