Sports Minister Mandaviya Inaugurates India’s First Mondo Track at JLN Stadium

Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Friday inaugurated India’s first-ever Mondo Track at the Jawaharlal Nehru (JLN) Stadium, ahead of the upcoming World Para-Athletics Championships scheduled from September 26 to October 5.

With this, India has become the 25th nation globally to install the high-performance track surface, which is widely used at premier international athletics events, including the Olympic Games.

The inauguration ceremony witnessed the presence of several sporting icons, including former long jumper and World Championship bronze medalist Anju Bobby George, two-time Paralympic gold medalist and Paralympic Committee of India chief Devendra Jhajharia, along with Paralympic medalists Sumit Antil (javelin throw), Preethi Pal, and Simran Sharma (sprint events).

Mandaviya said the installation of the Mondo Track will not only elevate India’s sports infrastructure but also provide world-class facilities to para-athletes competing at the upcoming championships and beyond.

The JLN Stadium in New Delhi is set to become the focal point of global para-athletics next month, hosting athletes from across the world in a first-of-its-kind championship for the country.
