KIIT-DU to Host International Conference on Social & Educational Chess in January 2026

Bhubaneswar, Nov 1: KIIT Deemed to be University (KIIT-DU) has taken a giant leap in the field of sports education by signing a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Federation Internationale des Echecs (FIDE) and the All India Chess Federation (AICF) to host the International Conference on Social and Educational Chess in January 2026. The MoU was signed in Goa in the presence of top dignitaries from the global chess community.

This collaboration marks a proud milestone for KIIT, KISS, and the state of Odisha, underscoring the growing trust of international sporting bodies in these institutions and their commitment to harnessing the power of sports for education and social transformation.

Renowned for its strong emphasis on blending academics with athletics, KIIT and KISS have consistently championed the cause of promoting sportsmanship, discipline, and holistic excellence among students. Over the years, KIIT has forged partnerships with several global sports organisations — including FIVB (Volleyball), FIFA (Football), and various national sports federations — to set new benchmarks in sports education and training.

The association with FIDE, the world’s apex chess body, adds yet another golden chapter to KIIT’s illustrious journey in global sports collaboration.

Expressing his happiness, Dr. Achyuta Samanta, Founder of KIIT and KISS, said,

“We are deeply honoured by the trust placed in us by FIDE President Mr. Arkady Dvorkovich, Grandmaster Viswanathan Anand Ji, AICF President Shri Nitin Narang Ji, and other dignitaries who graced the MoU signing ceremony. Their appreciation of KIIT and KISS’ vision of integrating education with sports and social transformation means a lot to us.”

Dr. Samanta extended heartfelt gratitude to FIDE and AICF for their partnership in promoting chess as a tool for education, inclusion, and empowerment, helping India strengthen its position in the global chess movement. He also acknowledged the continuous support of the Odisha Chess Association in promoting the game and nurturing young talents.

With this upcoming international conference, KIIT-DU is set to provide a unique platform for academicians, educators, and chess enthusiasts from around the world to explore the intersection of chess, education, and social development — further reinforcing Odisha’s emerging identity as a global hub for sports and knowledge.
