India to Host Global Javelin Competition Featuring Neeraj Chopra

Chandigarh, Jan 7 : India will host a prestigious global javelin competition later this year, likely in September, with Olympic gold and silver medallist Neeraj Chopra leading a star-studded lineup. The announcement was made by the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) on Tuesday.

This event adds to India’s growing portfolio of athletics competitions as the country positions itself as a global sporting hub. The AFI also revealed its intent to host marquee international events, including the 2029 World Championships, the 2027 World Relays, and the 2028 World Junior Championships.

Outgoing AFI President Adille Sumariwalla confirmed that India had submitted its expression of interest for the 2028 World Junior Championships during World Athletics President Sebastian Coe’s visit in November last year.

The upcoming javelin competition will bring together some of the world’s finest athletes, further boosting India’s profile in athletics and inspiring the next generation of Indian athletes.

Neeraj Chopra, India’s first track-and-field Olympic gold medallist, expressed his excitement about competing in front of a home crowd. This event is expected to draw significant global attention and strengthen India’s ambitions to host more elite athletics events in the future.
