Director J S Nandhini Rooted ‘Inspector Rishi’ in Cultural Authenticity

NEW DELHI: Writer-filmmaker J S Nandhini’s latest series “Inspector Rishi” has been garnering praise for its supernatural horror thriller narrative that is deeply rooted in cultural elements. Nandhini shares that her intention was to craft a story that resonates with audiences while staying true to the cultural ethos of its setting.

The 10-episode Prime Video series features a stellar cast including Naveen Chandra, Sunainaa, Kanna Ravi, and SriKrishna Dayal. Set in a small mountain village near Coimbatore, the story follows inspector Rishi Nandhan (Chandra) as he investigates a series of mysterious murders.

Delving into the creative process, Nandhini reveals, “When I started researching about who the spirit could be, I wanted the story to be rooted in our culture. I wanted it to be something that people from the villages and from our local towns are familiar with, to go into those deeper spiritual beliefs and those superstitions of the villages.”

With a focus on authenticity, “Inspector Rishi” not only delivers spine-chilling thrills but also offers audiences a glimpse into the rich tapestry of local traditions and beliefs. Nandhini’s dedication to cultural authenticity has undoubtedly added depth and resonance to the series, further enhancing its appeal to viewers.
