Delhi HC Summons Red Chillies, Netflix in Wankhede Defamation Case
The Delhi High Court on Wednesday issued summons to Shah Rukh Khan-owned Red Chillies Entertainment and OTT platform Netflix in a defamation suit filed by IRS officer Sameer Wankhede. The suit alleges that the web series ‘The Ba*ds of Bollywood’** has tarnished Wankhede’s reputation.
Wankhede has sought Rs 2 crore in damages, specifying that the amount should be donated to the Tata Memorial Cancer Hospital to support cancer patients.
Justice Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav issued notices to Red Chillies Entertainment Pvt Ltd, Netflix, X Corp (formerly Twitter), Google LLC, Meta Platforms, RPSG Lifestyle Media Pvt Ltd, and John Doe, directing them to file their responses within seven days.
The case has drawn significant attention due to its intersection of Bollywood, OTT content, and real-life controversies, highlighting the legal scrutiny OTT platforms face regarding content that could affect individuals’ reputations.
