BJD Alleges Misconduct Against Odisha Officials

BJD Alleges Rising Misconduct by BJP Leaders Towards Government Officials in Odisha

Biju Janata Dal on Sunday alleged that incidents of misconduct and intimidation towards government officials have increased since the Bharatiya Janata Party came to power in Odisha. The opposition party accused the state government of remaining a “mute spectator” to such incidents.

Addressing a press conference in Bhubaneswar, Biju Chhatra Janata Dal president Ipsita Sahu and BJD spokesperson Lenin Mohanty criticised the alleged behaviour of BJP leader Arindam Roy towards officials at the Tangi-Choudwar block office in Cuttack district.

The BJD leaders claimed that an Assistant Block Development Officer (ABDO) and a woman government official were allegedly subjected to verbal misconduct during the incident. They termed the alleged behaviour unacceptable and demanded strict action against those involved.

Ipsita Sahu alleged that despite repeated complaints regarding misconduct by ruling party leaders, the state administration and police have failed to take appropriate action. Referring to an earlier incident in Bhubaneswar involving another political leader accused of assaulting a government officer, she questioned why no action had yet been initiated against Arindam Roy.

She further alleged that such incidents indicate a growing atmosphere of intimidation and political aggression in the state.

Lenin Mohanty accused the BJP-led state government of failing to control rising incidents of violence and intimidation. He alleged that public servants are increasingly facing pressure and humiliation while carrying out their duties.

The BJD leaders urged Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi to intervene and ensure protection for government employees working at the grassroots level. They also appealed to BJP state president Nitin Nabin to take note of the matter and initiate action against leaders accused of misconduct.

The BJP had not issued any official response to the allegations till the filing of this report.
