Justice was served in the case of a tragic murder as a court in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district pronounced life imprisonment for three individuals convicted of killing a 17-year-old boy in 2021.

Mayurbhanj District Additional Sessions Judge, Satyanarayan Patra, delivered the verdict, finding Sovakar Mohanto (53), Jatrindranath Mohanto (43), and Kamal Lochan Mohanto (45) guilty of the heinous crime. Alongside the life sentences, a fine of Rs 50,000 was imposed on each of the convicts, as confirmed by Krushna Chandra Das, the additional public prosecutor.

In a stern warning, the judge decreed that failure to pay the fine would result in an additional six-month extension of their imprisonment.

The case had stirred emotions and raised concerns over the safety of minors in the region. The court’s decisive action brings a semblance of justice to the grieving family and underscores the legal system’s commitment to protecting the rights and lives of every citizen.
