India can be developed by 2047: Sachs

India on track for developed status by 2047: Sachs
Renowned economist Jeffrey D. Sachs on Wednesday said India could become a developed nation by 2047 if it sustains its current economic growth trajectory.
Speaking at an event organised by Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), Sachs described India as a key pillar of global stability and peace, highlighting its growing influence on the world stage.
He emphasised that India should maintain strategic autonomy in its foreign policy and avoid aligning itself with any single power bloc, including the United States.
“India does not have to align with anybody. It should aim to have good relations with everybody, but also not be part of anyone else’s strategy,” Sachs said.
The economist’s remarks come amid India’s expanding global role and its efforts to balance economic growth with an independent diplomatic approach.
Sachs noted that if current trends continue, India’s long-term development goals, including achieving developed nation status by the centenary of its independence in 2047, remain well within reach.
