Odisha Assembly Adjourned Amid Protests Over LPG Scarcity
The Odisha Legislative Assembly on Thursday witnessed repeated disruptions and was adjourned till 4 pm following protests by members of the Biju Janata Dal and the Indian National Congress over alleged scarcity of cooking gas and black marketing of LPG cylinders in the state.
The issue was raised soon after the House assembled for the Question Hour at 10.30 am, leading to heated exchanges and protests by opposition members.
Congress legislators entered the well of the House, raising slogans and holding placards demanding a rollback of the recent hike in LPG cylinder prices. They also protested near the Speaker’s podium, which disrupted the proceedings of the Assembly.
Members of the BJD also supported the demand, alleging that consumers in several parts of the state were facing difficulties due to shortage of LPG cylinders and irregular supply.
Amid the uproar and continuous sloganeering, the Speaker adjourned the proceedings of the House till 4 pm.
The issue of LPG availability and pricing has become a major concern in the state, with opposition parties demanding immediate steps from the government to ensure adequate supply and prevent black marketing.
