Sindhu Advances to Malaysia Open Pre-Quarters

Sindhu Storms into Pre-Quarters at Malaysia Open
Indian badminton star PV Sindhu marked a confident return from injury by advancing to the pre-quarterfinals of the Malaysia Open Super 1000 tournament with a straight-game win in the women’s singles opening round on Wednesday.
The 30-year-old former world champion defeated Chinese Taipei’s Sung Shuo Yun 21-14, 22-20 in a match that lasted just over 51 minutes. Sindhu showed composure and match sharpness, especially in the closely contested second game, to seal the contest in straight games.
Sindhu had been sidelined for several months after opting out of all BWF World Tour events since October last year to recover from a foot injury. Her victory signals a positive start to the new season as she looks to regain momentum on the international circuit.
In contrast, India suffered a setback in the mixed doubles event as Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto exited the tournament in the opening round. The world No. 17 Indian pair went down fighting to the lower-ranked American duo of Presley Smith and Jennie Gai 15-21, 21-18, 15-21 in a closely contested 56-minute match.
The Malaysia Open, one of the most prestigious events on the BWF World Tour, features top players from around the world and offers crucial ranking points early in the season.
