India Women Aim for Maiden ICC ODI World Cup Title
With the home advantage on their side, the Indian women’s cricket team is gearing up to end a 47-year wait for its first ICC title as the ODI World Cup 2025 gets underway. The tournament begins with India facing Sri Lanka in Guwahati on Tuesday.
Led by Harmanpreet Kaur, the Indian side, currently ranked world No.3, will look to capitalize on familiar conditions in the 13th edition of the Women’s ODI World Cup, returning to India after 12 years.
The global tournament will see eight top-ranked teams — Australia, England, India, New Zealand, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Pakistan — compete in 28 league matches in a round-robin format across four venues in India and one in Colombo. The competition boasts a record prize pool of USD 13.88 million, highlighting the growing prominence of women’s cricket on the world stage.
With confidence high and form on their side, India will aim to write a historic chapter in their cricketing journey and finally clinch their maiden ICC title.
