BMJD Alleges 4,000+ Rapes Odisha

BMJD Alleges Over 4,000 Rape Cases in Odisha in Last 15 Months
Bhubaneswar: The newly appointed President of Biju Mahila Janata Dal (BMJD), Snehangini Chhuria, alleged that more than 4,000 rape cases have been reported in Odisha over the last 15 months under the BJP government. Addressing the media, she accused the state administration of failing to ensure the safety and dignity of women.
Chhuria claimed that women in the state have become increasingly unsafe, with their dignity being gravely undermined. She asserted that the Biju Mahila Janata Dal would act as the voice for neglected and marginalized women and would fight for justice on their behalf.
Recalling the efforts made during the tenure of former Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Chhuria highlighted Mission Shakti as a flagship initiative that empowered women by enabling them to develop skills, gain recognition, and achieve respect in society. However, she alleged that the programme is now on the verge of collapse after just 15 months of BJP rule.
She further claimed that atrocities against women and students have worsened, forcing some to take extreme steps, including ending their lives. “Incidents of rape and harassment are reported almost daily in newspapers, yet the BJP government has failed to take meaningful or concrete action,” she said.
Reaffirming her commitment, Chhuria declared that the BMJD will continue to raise its voice for the safety, dignity, and justice of women in Odisha. The organization aims to stand by those affected and ensure that their concerns are addressed. This statement comes amid growing concerns over law and order and women’s rights in the state.
