Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi hailed the central government’s approval for a greenfield airport in Puri, calling it a major step forward for the state’s religious tourism and regional development.
On Monday, the central government granted in-principle approval for the establishment of the new airport in Puri, a town renowned for its historical and religious significance, particularly as the site of the famous Jagannath Temple. Majhi expressed his gratitude on social media, thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Civil Aviation Minister Sri Ram Mohan Naidu for their support in facilitating the approval.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Majhi wrote, “Thanks to Hon’ble PM Sri Narendra Modi and Sri Ram Mohan Naidu, Minister of Civil Aviation, for granting of in-principle approval for establishment of a greenfield airport in Puri. This decision will provide a major boost to religious tourism, regional development & overall connectivity in the region.”
The proposed airport in Puri is expected to significantly enhance connectivity to the town, attracting more tourists, especially religious pilgrims, and creating new avenues for economic growth in the region. The project is seen as a crucial part of efforts to elevate Odisha as a key religious tourism hub, further complementing the state’s cultural and historical heritage.
Once operational, the airport will also improve access to other popular destinations in the region, fostering broader regional development and boosting the local economy. The new airport is expected to play a vital role in promoting both domestic and international tourism, enhancing Puri’s status as a global pilgrimage site.
