Rourkela Steel Plant Achieves Record-Breaking H1 Production

Bhubaneswar, Oct 4 : The Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) has set multiple production records during the first half (H1) of the financial year 2025–26, highlighting a period of strong operational performance and growth.

Blast Furnace Highlights:

  • Blast Furnace-1 produced 5,55,524 tonnes of hot metal.
  • Blast Furnace-5 rolled out 15,93,968 tonnes, marking the best-ever April–September performance for both furnaces.

Rolling Mills and Plate Production:

  • Hot Strip Mill-2 (HSM-2) rolled 13,05,557 tonnes of HR coils, registering a 3.2% growth over the corresponding period last year.
  • Sheet Shearing Line (SSL) produced 1,52,415 tonnes, achieving its best H1 performance.
  • New Plate Mill (NPM) rolled 5,03,933 tonnes of plates, surpassing its previous best of 4,65,198 tonnes during H1 of 2023–24.

Dispatch and Monthly Records:

  • Direct dispatches reached an all-time high of 15,87,547 tonnes, exceeding last year’s H1 record of 15,81,275 tonnes.
  • In September 2025, RSP achieved several monthly milestones, including:
    • 3,46,567 tonnes of saleable steel produced—the highest for September.
    • BF-1 tapped 96,727 tonnes, surpassing the September 2024 record.
    • HSM-2 rolled 2,37,197 tonnes of HR coils, SSL produced 29,010 tonnes, and NPM rolled 83,862 tonnes of plates, all setting new monthly records.

Other Achievements:

  • Successful execution of an API X52 PSL-1 order for 14-inch diameter pipes at the ERW Pipe Plant.
  • Rolling 6,000 tonnes of thinner sections below 2 mm and 19,500 tonnes at 2 mm thickness in HSM-2.
  • Significant improvements in techno-economic metrics, including the best-ever steel ladle average life of 93.0 in SMS-1 and 143.7 in SMS-2, best snorkel life of 150 in SMS-2, and best average converter life of 7,700 heats in SMS-2.

These achievements underscore RSP’s commitment to operational excellence, technological innovation, and production efficiency, reinforcing its position as a leading steel producer in the country.
