President Murmu Graces First Convocation of AIIMS Gorakhpur, Hails Institute’s Role in Advancing Healthcare
In a landmark moment for healthcare and education in eastern India, AIIMS Gorakhpur held its first-ever Convocation Ceremony, graced by the Hon’ble President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu. The ceremony marked a historic milestone for the institution as it celebrated the graduation of its first batch of students.
The President lauded AIIMS Gorakhpur as a rising centre of excellence in quality healthcare, service, and innovation. “AIIMS institutions have become benchmarks in medical education and healthcare. AIIMS Gorakhpur is proudly carrying this legacy forward,” she said, addressing students, faculty, and dignitaries.
Highlighting the broader impact of the institution, President Murmu noted that AIIMS Gorakhpur is significantly contributing to the health needs of eastern Uttar Pradesh and neighbouring regions of Bihar and Nepal. She praised the integration of modern technologies like AI diagnostics, telemedicine, and robotic surgery in Indian healthcare, stating that such advancements are elevating the nation’s global healthcare standing.
Union Governor of Uttar Pradesh, Smt. Anandiben Patel, urged graduates to serve the nation with empathy, integrity, and innovation, while acknowledging the sacrifices of the local farmers whose lands were used to establish the institution.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath called it a proud moment for the Purvanchal region, once plagued by diseases like Japanese Encephalitis, now home to premier medical institutions. “AIIMS Gorakhpur represents a transformative shift in the region’s health infrastructure,” he said.
Union Minister of State for Health & Family Welfare, Smt. Anupriya Patel, echoed the sentiment, emphasizing that AIIMS Gorakhpur’s achievements in just six years reflect the government’s commitment to equitable healthcare access. “The number of AIIMS across India has increased from 7 to 23 since 2014,” she highlighted.
During the convocation, 61 students from the first graduating batch—including 48 MBBS, 8 MSc Medical, and 5 MSc Nursing students—received their degrees. The President also conferred gold medals to eight top-performing graduates. A convocation souvenir was unveiled by Governor Patel and its first copy presented to the President.
