PM Modi Honors Tribal Heroes Hul Diwas

PM Modi Pays Tribute to Tribal Freedom Fighters on Hul Diwas
On the solemn occasion of Hul Diwas, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid heartfelt tribute to the unmatched bravery and indomitable spirit of India’s tribal communities, honoring their historic resistance against colonial rule.
Commemorating the Santhal rebellion of 1855, the Prime Minister remembered the legendary tribal freedom fighters—Sido-Kanhu, Chand-Bhairav, Phulo-Jhano—and countless other martyrs who valiantly stood up against British oppression. Taking to social media platform X, PM Modi praised their courage and sacrifices, describing their legacy as a beacon of inspiration for future generations.
“Hul Diwas reminds us of the unwavering courage and valor of our tribal communities. On this day, I bow in deep respect to the brave Sido-Kanhu, Chand-Bhairav, Phulo-Jhano and all those warriors who laid down their lives resisting foreign rule,” he wrote in Hindi and Santhali scripts.
The Santhal Hul (rebellion), led by the Santhal tribes in 1855, was one of the earliest uprisings against British colonialism, and it marked a significant chapter in India’s freedom struggle. The movement began in present-day Jharkhand and spread across parts of Bengal, Bihar, and Odisha.
PM Modi emphasized that the legacy of these tribal heroes continues to inspire the nation’s collective resolve to uphold justice, freedom, and dignity. He also reiterated the government’s commitment to honoring tribal heritage and empowering tribal communities through inclusive development.
Hul Diwas is observed every year on June 30 to commemorate the bravery of the Santhals and raise awareness of tribal contributions to India’s freedom movement.
