PM lauds Bastar Pandum, hails cultural revival in Chhattisgarh
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday congratulated the people of Chhattisgarh for the special celebration of the ‘Bastar Pandum’ festival, held from February 7 to 9, saying the event showcased the rich culture, traditions and tribal heritage of the Bastar region in a magnificent manner.
Responding to a post by Union Home Minister Amit Shah on X, the Prime Minister said such festivals play a vital role in preserving India’s cultural heritage and empowering local communities. He extended his heartfelt congratulations to all those associated with the organisation of the event.
Reflecting on the changing image of Bastar, Modi noted that earlier the region was often associated with Maoism, violence and lack of development. “But now the situation has completely changed. Today, Bastar is known not only for its development but also for the growing self-confidence of its local people,” he said.
The Prime Minister expressed hope that the coming years would usher in an era of peace, progress and cultural pride for the region, adding that initiatives like Bastar Pandum strengthen cultural identity while promoting inclusive growth.
The Bastar Pandum festival brought together diverse tribal communities and artists, offering a vibrant display of traditional art forms, rituals, music and crafts, and highlighting Bastar’s evolving journey from conflict to confidence.
