In a tragic incident, an additional district magistrate (ADM) in Odisha’s Gajapati district collapsed on stage while singing a Jagannath bhajan at a government officials’ get-together and later died. The incident occurred on Wednesday evening and was confirmed by officials on Thursday.

The deceased, Birendra Kumar Das, was serving as ADM (Revenue) in Gajapati district. A video clip capturing the sudden collapse went viral on social media, drawing widespread attention and condolences.

Gajapati Collector Smruti Ranjan Pradhan provided details of the incident, stating, “The ADM suddenly collapsed while singing a bhajan and was taken to a local hospital, where it was found that his blood pressure was very high. After preliminary treatment, he was shifted to MKCG Medical and Hospital in Berhampur, where doctors declared him brought dead.”

The unexpected demise of Birendra Kumar Das has shocked colleagues and the community. Das was known for his dedication and service, and his passing is seen as a significant loss to the district administration.

Government officials and community members have expressed their condolences to Das’s family, remembering him for his contributions and commitment to his role. Plans for a memorial service are underway to honor his memory and service.
