No Flood Threat from Mahanadi River System, Assures Odisha Official

Odisha government officials have assured that there is no immediate threat of flooding in the Mahanadi river system, despite recent water releases from the Hirakud Dam.
On Tuesday, an official confirmed that although water was released from the Hirakud Dam, leading to a rise in levels at the Mundali barrage in Cuttack district, the situation is under control. The Hirakud Dam authorities had opened 20 gates last Sunday to release the season’s first floodwater downstream, a standard procedure to manage water levels and prevent potential flooding.
The release of water was part of routine operations to regulate the river’s flow and mitigate flood risks. Officials have stated that the current water levels are being closely monitored and that necessary measures are in place to manage any potential impact.
The assurance aims to alleviate public concerns following the recent water release and underscores the state’s preparedness in handling river management and flood prevention.
