Governor promotes fisheries entrepreneurship

Odisha Governor urges youth to build modern enterprises in fisheries, animal husbandry

Bhubaneswar, Jan 23 : Odisha Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati on Friday called upon the youth of the state to embrace fisheries and animal husbandry as modern, technology-driven and profitable sectors, urging them to view these fields as platforms for innovation, entrepreneurship and leadership.

Addressing the closing ceremony of the State-level Fisheries and Animal Resources Development Fair, Matsya-Pranee Samavesh Odisha-2026, the Governor said the sectors have evolved far beyond traditional practices and now offer vast opportunities in hatcheries, dairy units, poultry farms, feed production, processing units, pet care services and fisheries logistics.

“With the right skills, innovation and a scientific approach, young people can build successful enterprises while making a meaningful contribution to the state’s economy,” he said.

Highlighting the historical importance of fisheries and allied activities, Kambhampati noted that these sectors have long ensured food security, supported rural livelihoods and strengthened economic growth. He commended the state and central governments for implementing farmer-centric and fisher-friendly initiatives such as Mukhyamantri Kamdhenu Yojana, Mukhyamantri Matsyajibi Kalyan Yojana and Prani Sampad Samrudhi Yojana, along with national schemes like the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana and Rashtriya Gokul Mission.

The Governor said Odisha holds immense potential in fisheries and animal husbandry due to its long coastline, rich water resources and hardworking farming community. He added that the development of processing units, cold storage facilities and improved marketing infrastructure would generate employment and help the state emerge as a major hub for animal and fish products.

Kambhampati congratulated the outstanding farmers felicitated at the event for their dedication and innovation, and praised the Fisheries and Animal Resources Development Department for successfully organising the Samavesh.

Expressing optimism, he said coordinated efforts by the government, institutions and entrepreneurs would pave the way for a resilient, prosperous and inclusive Odisha.
