Farhan Akhtar to Play Ravi Shankar

Actor-filmmaker Farhan Akhtar has expressed that he feels “honoured and grateful” to portray sitar maestro Ravi Shankar in the upcoming four-part cinematic project on The Beatles, directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Sam Mendes.

The ambitious project, titled The Beatles – A Four-Film Cinematic Event, was announced last week by Sony Pictures. Each of the four films will chronicle the legendary British band’s story through the perspective of one of its members, offering audiences a comprehensive and immersive cinematic experience of the band’s journey and cultural impact.

Farhan Akhtar, who will bring the Indian music icon Ravi Shankar to life on screen, described the role as a rare opportunity to celebrate both Shankar’s legacy and the enduring global influence of The Beatles. Mendes, known for acclaimed films such as American Beauty, 1917, Skyfall, and Spectre, is expected to bring a cinematic depth and visual storytelling flair to the multi-film series.

The project promises to blend music, history, and drama, giving audiences a fresh lens on one of the most influential bands in the world while spotlighting the collaboration between Western and Indian music icons.
