CBI Arrests Berhampur EPFO Official Bribery

CBI Arrests EPFO Official on Bribery Charges in Berhampur

A senior official of the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) in Odisha’s Berhampur was arrested on Saturday by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on bribery charges, officials said.

According to a statement issued by the CBI, the accused—working as a Senior Social Security Assistant at the EPFO Regional Office in Berhampur—was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of ₹10,000 from a complainant.

The agency had launched an investigation after receiving a formal complaint alleging that the official had demanded the bribe in exchange for processing a pending matter related to the complainant’s EPF account.

CBI officials laid a trap and apprehended the official at the time of accepting the bribe. Further searches were carried out at the office and residence of the accused for possible evidence related to the case.

The CBI has registered a case under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act and is continuing its investigation.

This arrest comes amid growing concerns over corruption in government offices and highlights the central agency’s ongoing efforts to clamp down on graft within key public institutions.
