AIIA signs MoU with GIC for cashless Ayurveda treatment

In a major step towards integrating Ayurveda with the mainstream health insurance system, the All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), New Delhi, on Monday signed a Common Empanelment Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the General Insurance Council (GIC), enabling cashless treatment facilities under 32 general insurance companies.

With the agreement, AIIA—an autonomous institute under the Ministry of Ayush—has been empanelled with all insurance companies associated with the GIC, allowing patients to avail cashless Ayurveda-based healthcare services for eligible treatments.

The MoU was signed by Prof. (Vaidya) P. K. Prajapati, Director, AIIA, and Shri Segar Sampathkumar, Director (Health), General Insurance Council, in the presence of Prof. Bejon Kumar Misra, Chairman, Core Group of Experts on Ayush Health Insurance. Senior faculty members of AIIA were also present on the occasion.

Speaking at the event, Prof. Prajapati said the empanelment would significantly benefit patients by improving access, affordability and trust in Ayurveda. He expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Ayush and the AIIA team for their sustained efforts in achieving this milestone.

Congratulating the institute, Prof. Misra said this was the first time an Ayush institution in the country has entered into a formal empanelment agreement with the General Insurance Council. He noted that the availability of cashless treatment is expected to boost patient confidence, expand outreach, strengthen institutional credibility and support sustainable growth of Ayush healthcare services.

On the occasion, Prof. Misra also highlighted the launch of a dedicated Ayush Health Insurance Helpline by the Ministry of Ayush to assist beneficiaries with insurance-related queries and enhance awareness about Ayush insurance coverage. The helpline (1800-11-0008) will operate from 9.30 am to 5 pm on all working days.

The MoU marks a transformative step in advancing insurance-supported and integrative Ayurvedic healthcare in India, reinforcing the government’s commitment to strengthening Ayush systems within the national healthcare framework.
