Dr. Achyuta Samanta Receives 65th Honorary Doctorate from University of Buckingham
In a momentous recognition of his lifelong dedication to education and social service, eminent educationist and philanthropist Dr. Achyuta Samanta was conferred with the Degree of Doctor of Science (honoris causa) by the University of Buckingham, United Kingdom, on April 10, 2025. This marks the 65th honorary doctorate awarded to Dr. Samanta by renowned universities and institutions across the globe.

The University of Buckingham, the UK’s only independent university with a Royal Charter, honoured Dr. Samanta during its Graduation Ceremony in the presence of distinguished dignitaries including Chancellor Dame Mary Archer, Vice-Chancellor Prof. James Tooley, and Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof. Harriet Dunbar-Morris. The Senate and Council Members of the university were also present.
Dr. Samanta, founder of the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) and Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS), has transformed the lives of thousands through his pioneering efforts in inclusive education, particularly for indigenous and underprivileged communities. “For the last 33 years, I have been working relentlessly for the betterment of society. This honorary doctorate will remain a cherished milestone for me,” said Dr. Samanta, expressing his gratitude to the University of Buckingham.
While conferring the degree, the University acknowledged Dr. Samanta’s inspiring journey from humble beginnings to becoming a globally respected figure in education and social entrepreneurship. The Senate described his life story as “a testament to the indomitable human spirit” and commended his unwavering commitment to upliftment and empowerment through education.
This latest international accolade further reinforces Dr. Samanta’s stature as a global ambassador for education, peace, and sustainable development.
