Odisha Govt Transfers IPS Officer Considered Close to BJD

In a significant administrative reshuffle, the newly elected BJP government in Odisha has transferred IPS officer Ashish Kumar Singh, who was perceived to be close to the BJD leadership. Singh has been reassigned to the Home Department as an Officer on Special Duty (OSD).
The transfer order was issued on Thursday, following the recent reassignment of several senior IAS officers known for their association with V K Pandian, a key aide of former Chief Minister and BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik. This reshuffle included officers G Mathivathanan and R Vineel Krishna.
“Ashish Kumar Singh, IPS, (RR-2004), IGP, CM (security) is transferred and posted as OSD, Home Department with immediate effect,” read the notification.
Ashish Kumar Singh, who served as the Inspector General of Police (IGP) for Chief Minister’s security, is noted for his close ties with the BJD leadership. His transfer is viewed as part of the BJP government’s broader effort to reconfigure the administrative apparatus in the state following its recent electoral victory.
The reshuffle aims to consolidate the new administration’s control over key positions while ensuring the smooth implementation of its governance agenda. The state government has expressed its intention to continue with further administrative changes in the coming days.
The reassignments of high-ranking officers have attracted attention due to their perceived affiliations and the potential impact on the political dynamics within the state. Observers believe that these changes signal a shift in the administrative landscape of Odisha, as the BJP seeks to assert its influence over the state’s bureaucracy.
The newly appointed officers, including Singh, are expected to adapt quickly to their new roles and responsibilities as the BJP government embarks on its mandate to deliver on its electoral promises.
