AIIMS Bhubaneswar Promotes Menstrual Hygiene Awareness

AIIMS Bhubaneswar Calls for Breaking Menstrual Stigma on Hygiene Day
Bhubaneswar, May 28: Marking Menstrual Hygiene Day, AIIMS Bhubaneswar on Thursday highlighted the importance of menstrual hygiene, dignity and awareness, while urging society to eliminate stigma and misconceptions surrounding menstruation.
Prof. (Dr.) Sweta Singh from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology stressed the need for proper menstrual hygiene practices among women and adolescent girls. She advised changing sanitary pads regularly to prevent infections and maintain good health.
Drawing a connection with Odisha’s traditional Raja festival, Dr. Singh said Raja Parva symbolises respect for womanhood, menstruation and fertility, reflecting the cultural significance of awareness, care and compassion towards women’s health.
Highlighting this year’s Menstrual Hygiene Day theme, “Together for a Period Friendly India”, she called upon people to break myths and social taboos associated with menstruation and work collectively towards building a healthier, safer and more inclusive society for every girl and woman.
The institute also emphasised the importance of open conversations and education to ensure menstrual health and hygiene are treated as essential aspects of overall well-being.
