India BTM storage market to hit 39GWh

India’s behind-the-meter (BTM) stationary energy storage segment is set for steady expansion over the next decade, with demand projected to rise from 32 GWh in 2025 to over 39 GWh by 2033, according to a report by the India Energy Storage Alliance.

The report highlights that BTM systems—installed on the consumer’s side of the electricity meter—are emerging as a key component of India’s evolving energy ecosystem. These systems typically include rooftop solar installations, battery storage units, and backup power solutions integrated with inverters, UPS systems, and telecom infrastructure.

Driven by rising electricity demand, increasing adoption of renewable energy, and the need for reliable backup solutions, BTM storage is gaining traction across residential, commercial, and industrial segments. The growing emphasis on energy independence and grid resilience is further accelerating deployment.

Industry experts note that advancements in battery technologies, along with supportive government policies and falling costs, are likely to boost adoption in the coming years. The segment is also expected to play a crucial role in managing peak loads and enhancing the efficiency of distributed energy systems.

The India Energy Storage Alliance report underscores that as India continues its transition towards cleaner energy, behind-the-meter storage solutions will become increasingly vital in ensuring stability, sustainability, and energy security.
