Badshah apologises to NCW, backs girls education

Rapper-singer Badshah on Tuesday apologised to the National Commission for Women (NCW) over his controversial song Tateeree and pledged to contribute towards women’s empowerment by sponsoring the education of 50 girls from economically weaker sections (EWS).

Badshah, whose real name is Aditya Prateek Singh Sisodia, appeared before the commission in connection with a suo motu case initiated following objections to the song’s content.

The controversy erupted last month after the release of Tateeree, which drew criticism for its alleged portrayal of women. Taking cognisance of the matter, the NCW had summoned the singer for a hearing.

During the proceedings, Badshah expressed regret over the issue and assured the commission of his commitment to promoting respect and dignity for women through his work.

As part of his undertaking, the artist pledged to sponsor the education of 50 girls belonging to economically weaker sections, marking a step towards supporting women’s empowerment initiatives.

Also present at the hearing were the song’s directors Joban Sandhu and Mahavir Singh, along with producer Hiten.

The NCW is expected to review the assurances given during the hearing as part of its ongoing examination of the matter.
