BCCI directs KKR to release Mustafizur

BCCI asks KKR to release Mustafizur Rahman ahead of IPL 2026

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has directed Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to release Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman from its squad ahead of the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL), amid rising tensions in bilateral relations between the two countries.

KKR had recently acquired the 30-year-old left-arm pacer for Rs 9.20 crore from a base price of Rs 2 crore, after an intense bidding war with Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals at the IPL players’ auction last month.

The BCCI has clarified that KKR will be permitted to name a replacement player if required, ensuring that the team’s squad remains competitive for the upcoming season.

This move comes as part of the cricket board’s efforts to navigate the sensitive geopolitical situation while maintaining the smooth conduct of the IPL.
