Odisha Seeks Venue Shift for PM

Odisha Seeks PMO Nod to Shift PM Modi’s Sept 27 Programme Venue Amid Rain Forecast

The Odisha government has urged the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) to shift the venue of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled public meeting on September 27 from Berhampur to Jharsuguda in view of heavy rainfall forecast.

Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari on Sunday said that while preparations for the event in Berhampur were already completed, the adverse weather prediction necessitated the proposal for a change of venue.

“The venue in Berhampur has been prepared for the function, but in the wake of the weather forecast, it needs to be shifted. We have decided Jharsuguda as the alternative venue for the PM’s meeting and accordingly sought permission from the PMO,” Pujari told reporters.

The IMD has predicted heavy rainfall across Odisha due to the formation of successive low-pressure systems over the Bay of Bengal. Authorities fear waterlogging and disruption of public gatherings in the Ganjam region, where Berhampur is located.

Officials said a final decision will be taken after the PMO’s approval, but district administrations in both Berhampur and Jharsuguda have been put on alert to ensure preparedness for the Prime Minister’s visit.
