TPWODL Powers Western Odisha Industrial Growth

TPWODL Powers Western Odisha’s Industrial Growth with Reliable Electricity

Bhubaneswar, Sept 11 : Tata Power Western Odisha Distribution Limited (TPWODL), a joint venture between Tata Power and the Government of Odisha, has played a pivotal role in transforming Western Odisha into an emerging industrial hub by ensuring uninterrupted electricity supply to more than 21 lakh consumers across nine districts over the past four years.

According to a company statement, TPWODL currently serves 6,045 industrial consumers, including nearly 1,000 large industries and over 5,000 MSMEs, powering the region’s industrial network of nearly 2,000 units with a contracted demand exceeding 100 MW. Peak demand has already touched 88.9 MW, reflecting the rapid pace of industrialisation in the region.

To meet this growing demand, TPWODL has expanded and modernised its distribution infrastructure, laying 138 circuit kilometres of 33 kV dedicated feeder lines across key industrial belts in Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Rajgangpur, and Rourkela. An additional 52.42 circuit kilometres is currently under construction to further enhance supply reliability.

Industrial consumption in Western Odisha has grown 40% in the last four years, with MSMEs benefiting significantly from reliable power supply to scale up operations, create jobs, and contribute to Atmanirbhar Bharat, the company said.

Highlighting TPWODL’s role in driving regional growth, CEO Parveen Verma said, “Industries are the backbone of Western Odisha’s economy. At TPWODL, we are committed to supporting this growth with safe, reliable, and uninterrupted electricity. By empowering industries, we are also empowering people, creating jobs, supporting livelihoods, and contributing to the overall socio-economic development of the region.”

Officials added that TPWODL’s investments in infrastructure have not only boosted industrial confidence but also created an enabling environment for new investments, positioning Western Odisha as a rising industrial powerhouse.
