Samal to Lead Odisha BJP Again

Manmohan Samal Set to Be Reelected as Odisha BJP President Unopposed
Bhubaneswar, July 7:Manmohan Samal, the incumbent president of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s Odisha unit, is poised to be reelected unopposed to the party’s top post in the State. With no other contenders filing nominations for the position, his official declaration as the State BJP president is now a mere formality. The announcement will be made at 11 AM on July 8.
Samal, under whose leadership the BJP formed a government for the first time in Odisha, was the sole nominee for the post as the deadline for filing nominations ended today. The unchallenged support from party leaders and cadres has once again reaffirmed their faith in his organizational acumen and leadership qualities.
Known for his accessibility across all ranks of the party — from grassroots workers to senior leaders — Samal’s reelection comes at a time when the BJP has secured a significant political breakthrough in the State. Party insiders and political analysts attribute the recent electoral success in both Assembly and Lok Sabha elections largely to Samal’s strategic direction and decisive stand against a pre-poll alliance with the BJD.
Despite considerable speculation around a BJP-BJD alliance ahead of the 2024 elections, Samal played a key role in steering the party towards contesting independently. His firm stance, based on the perception that the BJD had lost credibility among the electorate, resonated well with the central leadership and ultimately proved fruitful at the ballot box.
Although Samal lost the Chandbali Assembly seat by a narrow margin, his leadership has been widely credited for the party’s resounding success across the State.
This will mark Samal’s third term as Odisha BJP president, having earlier served from 1999 to 2004 and from March 2023 to the present. His formal coronation tomorrow is expected to galvanize the party further as it prepares to consolidate its governance and political footprint in Odisha.
