Odisha Seeks Modern Statistical Progress System

Odisha Chief Secretary Calls for Modern Statistical System to Track State’s Progress
Emphasizing the importance of accurate and timely data in governance, Odisha Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja on Monday advocated for a modern, technology-driven statistical system to effectively measure the state’s socio-economic progress.
Speaking at the 19th National Statistics Day celebration in Bhubaneswar, Ahuja highlighted the critical role of data in identifying development gaps and planning future strategies. “A robust and modern statistical framework will not only help us track our progress but also guide us in pinpointing shortfalls and prioritizing targeted interventions,” he said.
The Chief Secretary underlined the necessity of institutional capacity building, noting that skilled manpower and advanced tools are essential for strengthening data-driven decision-making in the state administration.
National Statistics Day is observed annually on June 29 to commemorate the birth anniversary of the legendary statistician Prof. P.C. Mahalanobis. This year’s theme focuses on the use of modern statistical tools for informed policy formulation and inclusive development.
Officials from various departments, statistical professionals, academicians, and students attended the event, discussing the growing relevance of digital data systems, AI, and real-time analytics in governance and development planning.
Ahuja’s call for modernization comes at a time when Odisha is accelerating its push toward evidence-based policymaking, aiming for more effective governance and improved delivery of public services.
