Veteran Actor Asrani Passes Away in Mumbai at 84 After Prolonged Illness

Veteran Bollywood actor Govardhan Asrani, fondly known as Asrani, passed away in Mumbai on Monday, October 20, after a prolonged illness. The 83-year-old actor, celebrated for his impeccable comic timing and memorable roles across decades of Hindi cinema, was admitted to Bharatiya Arogya Nidhi Hospital in Juhu four days ago.
According to his personal assistant Babubhai, Asrani had been suffering from fluid accumulation in his lungs and breathed his last around 3:30 pm. His last rites were performed at the Santacruz Crematorium shortly after his passing.
A native of Jaipur, Asrani had expressed his wish for a peaceful and private farewell, requesting his wife Manju Asrani not to turn his death into a public event. Respecting his wishes, the family announced the news only after the funeral was completed.
Asrani leaves behind a remarkable legacy in Indian cinema, remembered for his versatility and timeless performances in films like Sholay, Chupke Chupke, and Amar Akbar Anthony.
