Union Minister Defends Film ‘Emergency’ Against Critics
Union minister Ravneet Singh Bittu addressed concerns surrounding the film “Emergency,” stating that opposition to the movie is an attempt to shield individuals responsible for atrocities against Sikhs.
In his statement on Friday, Bittu emphasized that the film does not contain any objectionable content about the Sikh community. He highlighted that all potentially controversial scenes have been eliminated after consultations with Sikh scholars, ensuring the film respects the sentiments of the community.
Bittu, who is the grandson of former Punjab chief minister Beant Singh—assassinated by terrorists—asserted the importance of representing historical events accurately while acknowledging the sensitivities involved. He reassured audiences that the film underwent thorough review by the censor board to remove any objectionable material, reflecting a commitment to responsible storytelling.
As “Emergency” gears up for its release, the minister’s defense aims to quell any unrest and promote a constructive dialogue around the film’s portrayal of historical events and their impact on the Sikh community.
