Thapar, Arora’s New History Book November

New Book ‘Speaking of History’ by Romila Thapar and Namit Arora to Release This November
Renowned historian Romila Thapar and writer Namit Arora are set to release their new book titled Speaking of History: Conversations About India’s Past and Present this November. The announcement was made on Wednesday by Penguin Random House India (PRHI), the book’s publisher.
Published under PRHI’s prestigious ‘Allen Lane’ imprint, the book promises an insightful exploration of the methodology and practice of writing history, highlighting its crucial role in shaping contemporary India. It addresses the ongoing distortions and misrepresentations of history in public discourse, analyzing the complex forces behind these narratives.
“The idea for this book arose after a spontaneous discussion we had about why history was so misunderstood in some circles,” said the authors. “We decided to have an extended conversation to clarify some key points and see where it might lead.”
The book traces the origins and evolution of historical scholarship in India, examining how interdisciplinary approaches and historical methods have developed over time. Through a candid dialogue, Thapar and Arora aim to illuminate the importance of accurate historical understanding in today’s society.
Speaking of History is anticipated to be a significant contribution to both academic and public discussions on India’s past, offering readers a thoughtful perspective on history’s relevance to present-day challenges.
