Tesla Opens First India Experience Centre

Tesla Opens First Experience Centre in India at Mumbai’s BKC, Fadnavis Invites Manufacturing Setup

Marking a significant step into the Indian electric vehicle (EV) market, global EV giant Tesla on Tuesday launched its first official experience centre in India at the Maker Maxity Commercial Complex, located in Mumbai’s upscale Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC).

The event was inaugurated by Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who extended a warm welcome to Tesla and expressed the state government’s interest in deeper collaboration with the company. Several senior government officials and Tesla representatives were also present at the launch.

Speaking at the inauguration, Fadnavis said, “We wish to see Tesla not just selling vehicles in India, but also designing and manufacturing them here. Maharashtra would be proud to partner with Tesla in setting up R&D and manufacturing facilities.”

The experience centre will offer potential customers a first-hand look at Tesla’s innovation in electric mobility, including model displays, interactive vehicle experiences, and consultations for future Tesla buyers.

Tesla’s move comes after years of speculation about its India entry and follows multiple rounds of discussions with the Indian government over EV policy frameworks and import duties. The launch signals Tesla’s intent to explore India’s rapidly growing EV market, with Maharashtra emerging as a potential hub for investment.

Industry experts believe Tesla’s entry could act as a catalyst for India’s EV sector, drawing in ancillary investments and pushing local manufacturing.

As Tesla gains a foothold in India, the company is expected to expand its presence through more centres and gradually introduce its vehicle lineup, while negotiating for a conducive environment to localise production.
