Tata Motors to Launch Hydrogen-Powered Trucks in Pilot Project

Tata Motors is set to begin a groundbreaking pilot project featuring hydrogen-powered trucks with internal combustion engines in the March quarter, as part of the National Green Hydrogen Mission.

A senior company official confirmed that the project will involve operating the trucks on three routes for a period of 18 months, in collaboration with Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL). This initiative marks a significant step towards sustainable and eco-friendly transportation solutions in India.

Tata Motors unveiled the hydrogen internal combustion engine-powered truck at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025 last week, showcasing its commitment to innovation and environmental sustainability in the commercial vehicle sector.

The trucks will be tested under real-world conditions, and the pilot project will help assess the viability and performance of hydrogen technology for long-distance haulage.

As the global automotive industry pivots toward cleaner energy alternatives, Tata Motors’ move into hydrogen-powered vehicles underscores its focus on reducing carbon emissions and advancing green mobility solutions.
