Sudha Murty’s ‘How I Taught My Grandmother to Read’ to Be Adapted into Stage Play
Celebrated author and Rajya Sabha MP Sudha Murty’s beloved short story “How I Taught My Grandmother to Read” is set to come alive on stage, with a Hindi theatrical adaptation premiering in the capital on July 13.
Titled “K se Kahani”, the play is presented by Delhi-based theatre collective Storee Ki Boree and will be staged at the LTG Auditorium. The production is directed by Munish Sharma, known for his sensitive and engaging theatrical work.
The play promises to capture the emotional depth and inspiration of Murty’s timeless story, which revolves around literacy, generational love, and the transformative power of education.
“This story is gentle, but its message is powerful,” said Shraddha Gupta, founder of Storee Ki Boree. “We are not just staging a play, instead we are celebrating the belief that it’s never too late to learn, to dream, or to begin again.”
The adaptation aims to introduce the story to a wider audience through performance, keeping alive its enduring message of lifelong learning and empowerment, especially for women.
