Singapore President Explores Odisha’s Heritage

Singapore President Visits Raghurajpur Heritage Village and Konark Sun Temple

Bhubaneswar: Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, accompanied by his wife, concluded his two-day visit to Odisha by exploring the cultural and historical landmarks of Raghurajpur and Konark in Puri district.

Upon their arrival at Raghurajpur, a UNESCO-recognized heritage village, the President and his delegation received a warm welcome from Deputy Chief Minister Prabhati Parida, Tourism Director Samarth Verma, Puri District Collector Siddharth Shankar Swain, and Superintendent of Police Vineet Agarwal.

The visit was marked by traditional folk and Gotipua dance performances, showcasing Odisha’s rich cultural heritage. President Shanmugaratnam interacted with local artisans specializing in Pattachitra, a traditional art form, and lauded their intricate craftsmanship. The President also toured key landmarks in the village, including the exhibition center, Anganwadi center, and health center.

Later, the delegation visited the iconic Sun Temple at Konark. At the IOCL Interpretation Center, they received an overview of the temple’s significance before proceeding to the main temple complex. Guided by experts from the Archaeological Survey of India, the President learned about the Sun Temple’s historical and architectural importance and explored its intricate carvings and unique design.

The visit was facilitated by senior state government officials, including Energy Secretary Vishal Dev, Tourism Secretary Balwant Singh, ADGP Sanjay Singh, and IGP Anup Kumar Sahu.

The Singapore President’s visit highlighted Odisha’s rich cultural and historical heritage, further strengthening ties between Singapore and India.
