Shivika Rohilla nears Delhi’s next WIM

Delhi’s Shivika Rohilla Inches Closer to WIM Title with Second Norm
Promising chess talent Shivika Rohilla has taken a major step toward becoming Delhi’s next Woman International Master (WIM) after securing her second WIM norm, reigniting hopes of a new star emerging from the capital’s chess scene.
The 21-year-old Women FIDE Master (WFM), who had experienced a dip in form recently, returned to her best with a strong showing in a recent international tournament, fulfilling the criteria for her second WIM norm. With just one norm and the required rating threshold left, she is now on the brink of achieving the coveted title.
Shivika is poised to become only the second woman from Delhi to earn the WIM title, following in the footsteps of the legendary Tania Sachdev. Tania, who achieved the title years ago, went on to earn the higher distinctions of Woman Grandmaster (WGM) and International Master (IM), and currently holds two Grandmaster (GM) norms in the open category—just shy of the full GM title that only around 40 women have achieved globally.
“Shivika’s comeback and second WIM norm are proof of her grit and determination. It’s a proud moment for Delhi chess,” said a senior official from the Delhi Chess Association.
Her performance has sparked optimism in the Indian chess community, which continues to see a surge in young female talent. With one final push, Shivika could soon bring another international title home and add a new chapter to Delhi’s rich chess legacy.
